Building a boat ramp or boat launch is the process of creating a passage in a body of water that allows boaters access to the water. This passage often consists of a ramp or pier, but it could also be created with runways or channels cut into the shore.

Building boat ramps make launching a boat into the water easier.  Most of the time, this includes a gradual slope that allows a person to drive or walk his boat into deep water. Boat ramps are typically permanent structures.
